Here’s the latest news on GLR’s charity partners, The British Paralympic Association and The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Julie’s Christmas on Kilimanjaro
While many of us may have wished to escape the commercialisation and corny cracker jokes this Christmas, one GLR Board member did just that while raising funds for charity. She has raised £1450 for The British Paralympics Association.
Julie Walker started her 8 day hike up Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro on 15 December and spent Christmas Day at 5,600 feet looking out over the stunning snow-capped summit of the dormant volcano. After another 7 days of trekking back down Julie arrived home on 12 January following a few days recuperation.
Julie says of her trip ‘I’m delighted to have made it safely to the top and even more delighted to have raised so much for The British Paralympics Association. I’m in awe of Kilimanjaro; it truly is a beautiful mountain and was a jaw-dropping experience every single day. Spending Christmas up there was particularly memorable. It was tough at times but I spurred myself on with the thought of so many amazing disabled athletes overcoming their incredible challenges to compete at Olympic level. I’m looking forward to the Beijing Games in September.”
