The Prostate Cancer Charity Marketing Industry Triathlon

The Prostate Cancer Charity Marketing Industry Triathlon is an event held specifically for those in the marketing and communications industries. As The Prostate Cancer Charity is the charity partner of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Greater London Region, it would be great for members to get involved.

Held in the beautiful setting of Dorney Lake at Windsor, the site of the 2012 Olympic Rowing Venue, this is an opportunity for you to take on your rivals in the marketing world.

Taking place on the 2 July, you can enter as an individual or in a relay as part of a team.

In the Greater London Region, The Institute partners with several charities. One of them is the Prostate Cancer Charity . Their recent Tour of Britain Event was a huge success with over 1,200 riders taking part in Stoke and over 500 in London. But it doesn’t stop there. This year’s Movember event promises to be the best ever.  We’ll keep you posted.

The LionHeart Challenge  is a programme that takes young people through a series of business challenges designed to hone their entrepreneurial skills and to encourage greater teamwork. Volunteers from a range of professional organisations and businesses help by donating time and knowledge. The final round asked young people to “to conceptualise, design and create a product or device which will become a major aid to fire prevention in the UK.”  Members of the GLR were on hand on July 1st at the Emirates Stadium to help make the event a success. Mocky Khan, GLR Chair, and Phillip Preston, Regional Director, East of England and Greater London, were both judges.  Steve Revill, Robert Harris, Michael Lowkin, Sebastian Franco, Jay Gorasia and Mark Ganellin were all there to offer advice and guidance. With the sunny day and longer evenings, I’ve been able to get quite a bit of training in. I like to mix it up a bit. So when I want to try something else, I get on bike for a few hours. For me, the key to preparing for a race is variety. I like some change in my routine. The other thing that’s important is a sense of purpose. Having a goal in mind makes it easier to get those shoes on and get out the door. I’m doing all this work for a good reason. Making sure every athlete gets a chance and compete is important. And I feel a sense of enthusiasm for the 10K race I’m entering.  I think having a clearly defined purpose, like taking part in a race that raises money for a charity, is important. When you get off track and miss some training or over do it on a Saturday night, it’s that much easier to get back on track. If I were just trying to improve my general fitness levels, I might not feel so focused on my goal. I think that’s true of the way I work, too. I like having clear objectives and I feel great when my clients reach their objectives. For me, it’s not really about competing with people. It’s about achieving new goals.

I have to admit that I’m not a particularly natural athlete. I don’t remember ever coming home with any prizes on school sports’ days. But as the years have gone by, I’ve continued to run, cycle and wind surf. In fact, I won my first prize last year when I competed in a mini-triathalon at my eldest son’s swimming club. I came in third…out of three. But the best thing was taking home my first athletic award. Read on…
